Shaker Heights Youth Center

The Shaker Heights Youth Center (see City map) has distinguished itself as a leader in the field of community social service. It is one of the few agencies statewide to be recognized for excellence in service from the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services. Comprehensive programs serve youth grades K-12.

The Shaker Heights Youth Center Mentoring Program for Academic Achievement: The Mentoring Program provides opportunities for students to experience positive adult interaction as a way of increasing individual academic achievement. Performing well in a school environment is a significant factor in reducing an adolescent's use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

A mentor's responsibilities include:

  • offering academic support;
  • providing encouragement;
  • acting as a positive role model;
  • meeting with a student not less than three hours each month

This project is funded by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and the City of Shaker Heights. If you are interested in being a mentor, or in recommending someone for the program, please call: 216-752-9292.
