SHAKER ARTS ORGANIZATIONS

The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is a grassroots, citizen-directed nonprofit organization, whose purpose is to nurture an environment in which the arts - in all forms - visual, performance, and literary enrich Shaker's culture and character.  SHAC seeks to bring together artists, city, schools, library and community groups to share arts programs and resources; embrace the diversity of our culture through the arts; promote Shaker artists; present a unified voice in advocacy of the arts, partner with neighboring communities, and encourage our residents to experience the joy of artistic expression.

SHAC offers these opportunities:

  • The storefront window display project at Shaker Town Center feature photos of local artists at work in their respective disciplines.
  • At Home for the Arts! (AHA!) events present a variety of short performances in private homes; this popular program is scheduled throughout the year.
  • Artists' work for sale will be offered in various locations throughout the community; in public buildings, restaurants and office spaces.

The Shaker Historical Museum was established in 1956 to house the Shaker Historical Society's collection of fine shaker furniture and artifacts.  The Museum moved to its present location after Frank A. Myers, a trustee, donated his family's Tudor mansion for use by the Society.  It occupies what was once the North Union Center Family's apple orchard.
