The Building Department is charged with maintaining the safety and superior quality of Shaker’s architecture. Inspectors are State-certified and are required to be licensed in at least two of the following areas:

• Electrical
• Plumbing
• Heating
• Structural

The department is responsible for:

• New construction and renovation permits (residential and commercial)
• Mechanical permits
• Commercial property maintenance inspections
  • All permit work is inspected.
  • 6,300 inspections are performed annually.

Qualified rehabbers can receive special incentives through the Shaker Renovator Program.
