Learn-to-Skate
Registration Dates | Fees | Private Lesson Instructors
Learn-to-Skate classes meet once a week for six weeks. Registration ends two business days prior to the first class. Class sizes are limited. Students enrolled in Snowplow Sam 1 (SPS1) and Basic 1 and their parents receive a brief orientation on the first day of class.
All new/beginning skaters are asked to arrive ten minutes early on the first day of class for orientation held in the arena area by the entrance to the ice rink.
Clothing & Equipment
Comfortable, flexible and warm clothing, including hats and gloves or mittens are recommended for all skaters. Beginners should wear loose-fitting pants and all skaters should wear one pair of socks or tights. Bike or hockey helmets are mandatory for all Snowplow Sam 1 skaters. Bike helmets are recommended for Basic 1 skaters. Single blade figure or hockey skates are required. Skate and helmet rentals extra, if needed.
Important: If your child is 5 or under and has never skated before, please register him/her for Snowplow Sam 1. If your child is 6 or over and has never skated before please register him/her for Basic 1.
- Snowplow Sam 1 must be completed before moving to Snowplow Sam 2 & 3. We offer Basic Skills classes 1-7 and Freestyle 1-6. Each level must be completed before advancing to the next. Your skater is evaluated after each six-week session. If you have questions on the last level your skater completed please contact Erin M. Schopf at 216-295-3461.
- Included in the Fall Learn to Skate registration fee is the opportunity for your skater to compete in our 5th Annual Chuck Rossbach Learn to Skate Competition on December 13th.
- Advanced Learn-to-Skate on Tuesday nights - For the skater who wants to pursue competitive skating or a higher level of skating. This class provides an opportunity for advanced instruction beyond Learn-to-Skate on full ice.
- Power Hockey on Thursday nights - Full Ice. This class is designed for all youth hockey players. Groups will be divided by Mite, Squirt, PeeWee. Class is taught by Erin M. Schopf, Skating Coordinator and Caleb Wyse, Youth Hockey Coordinator. Additional Power Skating instructors will be available during the class for assistance.
