The Planning Department provides support for current and long-range planning studies, including:

  • Zoning Code modifications
  • Traffic studies
  • Streetscape plans
  • Park plans
  • Entry, public building, and park signage
  • New home construction

The Department also staffs Boards and Commissions charged with preserving the aesthetic quality and character of Shaker Heights:

  • Architectural Board of Review,
  • City Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals,
  • Landmark Commission.

The Department has a wealth of resources about Shaker's distinctive architecture and its garden city history. It has, among other treasures, a list of homes designed by the noted architect, George M. Burrows.
