The Planning and Development Department provides support for current and long-range planning studies, including:
- Zoning Code modifications
- Traffic studies
- Streetscape plans
- Park plans
- Entry, public building, and park signage
- New home construction
The Department also staffs Boards and Commissions charged with preserving the aesthetic quality and character of Shaker Heights:
- Architectural Board of Review,
- City Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals,
- Landmark Commission.
The Department has a wealth of resources about Shaker's distinctive architecture and its garden city history. It has, among other treasures, a list of homes designed by the noted architect, George M. Burrows.
