Opening a Business
Opening a business is both exciting and stressful. We are going to make it as easy as possible for you to do business in Shaker.
The following are the steps and City Departments you will encounter in opening your business.
- Find the right location for your business. Consult our available commercial properties list.
- Please note that spaces undergoing renovation will require architectural drawings and a plan review, which will add additional time to your schedule, as outlined in the renovating a commercial building process.
- If the business use is approved for the location you’ve chosen, then a commercial occupancy inspection of the property will be scheduled. At this time, the Fire and Health Departments will be notified so that inspections can also be arranged. If either department identifies any specific code issues, then a written notice with a 30-day compliance period will be issued.
- A commercial occupancy permit will be issued upon compliance. You may find it advantageous to contact the Fire Department directly ahead of time if you have any questions or concerns regarding fire safety issues.
