Street Sign Sale Update

October 21, 2008: The iconic black and white Shaker street signs (and poles) are being replaced citywide to comply with state mandates. Existing street signs in a several street area will be removed on one day, and replaced within the next day or so. Because different equipment is required to remove and install the signs, the two phases of work cannot necessarily be completed on the same day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please be assured that the signs will be replaced as promptly as possible. Thank you for your patience with this citywide improvement project.

The old street signs will be sold on Saturday, November 22, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Shaker Heights City Hall, 3400 Lee Road. Signs have been cut off of the top of the original poles. They will be sold in that sign configuration, which may include 1 - 3 street names, depending on the intersection. Signs will be sold as-is, for $30 per sign top, on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit of 5 signs per person. Cash and check only will be accepted.

If you are unable to attend the sale on November 22, we offer two alternatives:

  1. Submit the completed sign request form with check payment to the Planning Department by mail or in person. Request forms will be filed in the order received. At 3:00 PM on November 22, 2008, staff will begin fulfilling requests; you will be notified whether or not your request was fulfilled. Signs must be picked up by Friday, December 5, 2008.
  2. Signs not sold on November 22 will be available for purchase at the Planning Department office during business hours through the end of the year.

Questions about the sale should be directed to the Planning Department at 216-491-1430.
