H1N1 Vaccinations Offered for Priority Groups

November 11, 2009 - The Shaker Heights Health Department will distribute H1N1 vaccine at the Shaker Middle School, 20600 Shaker Blvd. from 10 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 14. The vaccine continues to be available only to those in the following priority groups:
  • Pregnant women
  • Household members and caregivers of infants less than 6 months old
  • Emergency responders and health care workers
  • All children 6 months up to 5 years of age
  • Children 5 to 18 years of age with a chronic medical condition (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease)

There is no cost for the H1N1 vaccine. For those in the high risk groups, vaccine will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Because of limited supplies of the vaccine, the Health Department is presently unable to offer immunization to children 5 years to 24 years without medical conditions. These children and young adults represent the next highest priority groups based on up to date research about the risk of complications resulting from H1N1 infection.

As soon as sufficient vaccine is available to offer the vaccine to additional priority groups, information will be posted on the City website, through E-News subscription, and on the H1N1 information line, 216-491-3170. Adults 25 to 64 years with medical conditions and adults over 65 years are the next priority group.

The Health Department is duty-bound to offer the vaccine first to those with the greatest identified need. Residents are asked not to request the vaccine if they do not fall into one of the five priority groups listed above.
