Electronics Recycling
Local retailers are now offering electronics recycling programs:
ecoNEW Program
Generates a trade-in value on old electronics products and provides a pre-paid shipping label to print and send the product to a recycling center.
The product is audited and a branded gift card is mailed to the consumer for the trade-in value of the product. Some products have no trade-in value, but you can still send the product back for proper recycling.
Sony Take-Back Program
Sony customers can recycle up to five Sony products per day by dropping them off at a designated Waste Management eCycling Drop-Off Center. There is one in Solon. Consumers also have the option of shipping their used Sony electronics products to select Waste Management locations.
RadioShack Corp. Take-back Program
Consumers can exchange used, portable electronics for store credit, in the form of a RadioShack gift card. Consumers fill out an online form describing the condition of the used product. The service determines the device's trade-in value and offers participants the option of printing a prepaid shipping label to mail the product back to the company. A gift card equal to the value of the returned item is then shipped to the customer within two weeks.
Best Buy Inc. Program
Free in-store recycling for small electronics, weekend recycling events, and free removal and recycling of old appliances including televisions (with purchase).
Panasonic Corp. of North America Program
Will provide consumers with recycling of Panasonic branded TVs and other consumer electronics.
The Panasonic program began with more than 160 recycling drop-off locations in 10 states (not including Ohio), and is slated to expand to all 50 states, with hundreds more sites, over the next three years.
