The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is made up of volunteers who are specially trained to assist the Fire Department during emergencies.
There are more than 1,100 CERT teams in operation in the United States, including in Shaker. The program is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Members of CERT participate in a special training program that includes everything from disaster preparedness to fire safety, even light search and rescue. In Shaker, volunteers must also maintain current CPR and first-aid certifications.
The next CERT Academy training program, which is required for volunteers, will be September 7 to November 9, 2023. If you are interested in participating in the training academy and learning more about the program, please contact Louis Bottone at 216-491-3205 or by email.
