The bridge over the Horseshoe Lake dam/spillway has been closed, due to worsening conditions after this weekend's storms. We are awaiting an inspection by ODNR. Due to unsafe conditions, residents must stay off the bridge until further notice.

PLEASE NOTE that out of concern for public safety, the walkway will remain closed until further notice.
After the recent rain events, our City engineer noted that the spillway structure at Horseshoe Lake was showing additional signs of deterioration. Staff from Public Works performed a cursory follow-up inspection on the morning of Monday, July 19 and observed undermining taking place in the northern portion of the spillway (undermining means soil is washing away from under the structure). Public Works consulted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) on Monday afternoon and ODNR recommended closing the observation deck because of the number of unknowns and potential safety hazards. Yesterday afternoon, Public Works met with a team of engineers that consisted of a structural engineer, a geotechnical engineer and a water resource engineer; all were in agreement that the observation deck/spillway should remain closed. At this point, based on recommendations from the engineers, additional tests will be performed that include core drilling, sounding and partial removal of the observation deck, in addition to using ground penetrating radar to determine the extent of the voids/undermining. Following this testing, plans are for enhanced barriers to be installed.
