[ARCHIVED] Call for Artists: Van Aken District Mural Project

Logo for Van Aken District

The Van Aken District is seeking portfolios from artists interested in having their work displayed as a large-scale printed mural. Six total artworks will be displayed by up to six artists. Each work will be a printed as an 8’x10’ vinyl installation and placed in Bowser Alley, which runs between the District’s Market Hall and parking garage.

The project is a collaboration between the City of Shaker Heights, the Van Aken District, and LAND Studio.

“The Mural Project represents the City’s continued commitment to public art, including in the Van Aken District,” says Director of Planning Joyce Braverman. “We are eager to see Bowser Alley become the home of revolving art exhibits that showcase the many talented artists of Shaker Heights, Greater Cleveland, and beyond.”

Last year, “Sidechairs” was installed by Coryn Kempster and Julia Jamrozik in four locations in the Van Aken District and some additional small-scale projects have been integrated over the past year. Plans are also underway for a signature public artwork for the District.

The Call for Artists is open to all qualified artists, 18 years and older. Shaker Heights artists, Greater Cleveland artists and artists with ties to the region are especially encouraged to participate. Deadline for submissions is Monday, April 13, 2020. Artists will receive $500 per piece selected. View submission requirements at https://www.land-studio.org/artists/calls-for-artists/van-aken-district-murals-call-for-artists
