[ARCHIVED] Update on City Youth Hockey Program

Community Advisory graphic-365x231

The City of Shaker Heights has been notified of a number of COVID positive cases among adults and players associated with the City’s youth hockey program.

We were informed of the first positive case on Friday, October 9. We immediately contacted all of the coaches and players on the teams that could have had exposure and asked them to adhere to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health 14-day quarantine protocol. Practices and games for six of the ten youth hockey teams were suspended and the rink was closed for 24 hours for additional deep cleaning.

Since Friday, we have been informed of additional positive cases and have kept CCBH apprised of the situation. Those who had direct contact with the COVID positive individuals will receive a letter from the Ohio Department of Health outlining the required quarantining protocol.

The ice rink is open for use by a very limited number of groups. Strict safety and sanitization protocols have been in place since the rink opened for these groups.  A monitor is on duty at all times. Only those on a pre-approved roster are allowed access to the rink.  The rink has been closed to the general public since the pandemic began.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will maintain regular contact with Cuyahoga County Board of Health officials who are providing guidance to us. We are following all of their recommendations related to safety and sanitization protocols.
