Free Smoke Detectors

Smoke detector

There's still time for residents to request free photoelectric smoke detectors from the Shaker Heights Fire Department.

Last January, the Fire Department announced plans to install more than 2,000 new photoelectric smoke detectors in the homes of Shaker residents. It's been a busy several months, as crews have now installed detectors in more than 400 Shaker homes.

The Department has approximately 300 detectors remaining in its inventory. Residents who wish to take advantage of the opportunity may complete an online request form (preferred) or call the smoke detector hotline at 216-295-3400. Hurry! This free offer ends when the supply of detectors is exhausted

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a resident of Shaker Heights
  • Permit the Fire Department to install the smoke detectors
  • Not have an automatic, monitored smoke alarm system
  • Not have received a free photoelectric smoke detector through the 2013 grant program

Please note: If you've already filled out the form, but have not yet received your smoke detectors, rest assured the Fire Department is working through the list and will contact you when it's your turn for installation.
