[ARCHIVED] Thornton Park Pool to Close for 3 Days for Critical Repairs

Thornton Par Pool

The public swimming pool at Thornton Park in Shaker Heights will close for critical repairs from 7:30 p.m. on July 18 through 9:00 a.m. on July 22, 2022

Alexandria Nichols, Director of the Shaker Heights Recreation Department, said the temporary shutdown will enable a critical repair to the pool liner required because the liner adhesive has failed in the lazy river section of the pool. “The problem will get worse if repairs are not made at this time,” she explained.

Nichols said the park’s maintenance team noticed during the week of July 4 that the pool liner was coming away from the wall of the pool in the lazy river area. The problem progressed, with the liner now peeling away from the stairs in that section, causing a trip hazard.

“While less than ideal to close the pool in the summer, this is a critical emergency repair that is necessary to stop the liner adhesive from continuing to erode and thereby protect public safety,” Nichols said.  The pool will be partially drained so workers can apply and cure adhesive material.

The Recreation Department will contact swim lesson participants, the Shaker Sharks swim team, and pool pass holders. Residents with questions should contact the Thornton Park front office, which is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at 216-491-1290.
