Mud flats on Horseshoe Lake in Shaker Heights

Horseshoe Lake: Please, Stay Off Mud Flats

Heavy rains in June caused further stress to the dam at Horseshoe Lake. As a result, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources directed the City to almost completely drain the Lake, so that investigation and modification of the dam and spillway can take place. This process is anticipated to take two years.

Mud flats now cover almost all of Horseshoe Lake. Do not walk on or play near the mud flats. They are very dangerous and you will sink into the mud, which could require a rescue operation. Public Works has placed warning signs and reinforced fencing around the lake.
