The Mayor's Report header

Mayor David Weiss
Dear Resident,

As you may know, the National Weather Service confirmed a “microburst” during Friday night’s storm, which explains the widespread and extensive damage particularly in the northwest quadrant of the City. Wind speeds were likely in excess of 70 mph and may have even reach more than 90 mph. We are so fortunate that there were no storm-related injuries reported.

Police, Fire and Public Works are reporting a return to normal operations as of this afternoon. Public Works will continue picking up brush and branches for at least another week, but the City is operating as usual with all roads open.

First Energy is working as quickly as possible to restore power to the small number of homes in Shaker that are still without it. If you need assistance as a result of this prolonged outage, please call 911. Police and Fire personnel are always available to help in situations like this. Also, thank you to those residents who reached out with offers to help neighbors in need.

Your patience and support during this unusually severe storm were appreciated by all of the First Responders. We deployed all of the resources available to us, but we also relied on you to stay informed by reading important updates on the website, Facebook and Twitter and following important instructions from Police and Fire regarding safety on the roads and staying away from downed power lines. We are also grateful for your patience as we continue to sweep through the City doing clean-up work.

I was delighted to read all of the notes of gratitude posted by residents for the hard work of our First Responders. Police, Fire and Public Works crews really appreciated your messages and the delicious sweets delivered by residents. The storm left a lot of damage, but we certainly rallied together as a community to help each other out, minimize the impact, and move forward quickly.

I’d also like to join all of you in thanking our First Responders for a job well done. As both the Mayor, and a resident, I have great confidence in their ability to keep us safe, and respond to emergencies quickly, efficiently, and with great professionalism and compassion.

I’m pleased to say that the forecast this week looks sunny and beautiful. I hope you are able to spend some time outside and enjoy it!

Sincerely,

David E. Weiss
Mayor
