Face Coverings Mandatory Statewide Effective July 23, Governor Mike DeWine declared a face covering mandate for the State of Ohio. Individuals age 10 and older are required to wear face coverings in any indoor location that is not a residence and outdoors when unable to consistently socially distance from others not in your household. Green Lake Dam Project CompleteIt's a wrap. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's $2 million-plus project to rehabilitate Green Lake and rebuild the dam and spillway is officially complete. 2020 Landmark Commission Preservation Photo Contest Winners The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission announces winners of the eighth annual Preservation Month Photo Contest. The contest, created in 2013, honors Preservation Month, which is celebrated each May by preservation organizations across the country. This year’s contest was on Instagram. Twenty-four photographers submitted 67 entries at the hashtag #PreserveSH20. This year’s Grand Prize winner is “Looking On” by Ryan Stargell. Check out all of the 2020 winners.

Blue/Green Line Rapid Service Scheduled to Resume August 9

Face Mask Donation DriveTo help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the City is working to improve access to free masks in Shaker by organizing a weekly face mask donation drive. Residents are invited to donate homemade or store-bought masks on Fridays outside the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building (3450 Lee Rd.) anytime between 9 am and 5 pm (the Community Building remains closed, but there will be a bin near the main doors). Masks will be distributed to residents who need them.

Register for Summer Play DaysThroughout August Shaker Heights Recreation offers a wide variety of daily, neighborhood-based programs for children of all ages to get out of the house and engage in fun, constructive activities while staying safe in Shaker's outdoor parks. There's something for everyone: crafts, fitness, skating, movies, and much more! Registration is required and fees apply. Groups are small to allow for social distancing. Each issue of this ENews highlights an important school-related topic. To stay informed about all the school news Shaker Heights Schools will offer in-person enrollment for all new students at Shaker Heights Middle School. In-person enrollment is by appointment only and intended for families who cannot complete enrollment online and who need official transcripts or documents to be notarized. These services will be provided Monday through Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm, beginning Monday, August 3. You must call the Registration Office at 216-295-4321 to schedule an appointment for in-person enrollment. Families with new students may also enroll online. The Shaker Schools Foundation coordinated a fundraising campaign to help defray the cost of connecting those devices, and community members responded generously, raising more than $25,000 in just a few weeks. There will be additional technology needs for the upcoming school year.To assist with this ongoing effort, community members may make a donation online.
