Community Conversations

Focus on race, diversity, equity and inclusion in Shaker Heights

Conversation Series to Launch July 23

The City of Shaker Heights is launching a series of periodic Community Conversations focused on race, diversity, equity and inclusion as they intersect with the work of the City. The purpose of these conversations is to create a space where members of the community and City staff can engage in honest and constructive dialogue around these complex topics, a space where we can listen to and learn from each other’s unique perspectives and experiences. These conversations will help to inform the work we will do as a City and community to create a more equitable, inclusive and just place to live, work and raise children.

The topic of the first conversation is Policing in Partnership with the Community. Members of SHPD and related City staff will share information about police practices and policies, and will listen and respond to questions submitted by participants.

Future conversations will explore topics of race, diversity, equity, and inclusion as they relate to other City departments, functions, practices and policies. Conversation topics will be determined with community input.

Please join us as we launch this initiative on Thursday, July 23 via a Zoom webinar. Your voice is important to the conversation and to shaping the future of Shaker Heights.
