Memorial Day

The annual Memorial Day ceremony and parade brings together a grateful community to memorialize the nation's war dead, and to honor local heroes serving in all branches of the military.

City Hall, 9 am: Placement of a wreath at the war memorial, gun salute, and a brief ceremony of commemoration.

Immediately following the ceremony, the parade proceeds east to Thornton Park in the westbound lane of Van Aken Boulevard. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy the remarkable Shaker Heights High School Marching Band.

2018 Highlights:

    • Please visit the City's Facebook page for news and information regarding the ceremony and parade updates including the parade line up.
    • No candy will be thrown by parade participants riding in vehicles or walking next to a vehicle in the street. Participants who want to give out candy should walk along the side of the street where they can hand candy to bystanders. The candy should be kept with the parade participant to avoid reaching into a moving vehicle to get candy.
